There comes a day in every young professional’s life when you’re forced to do something you don’t want to do. I’m not talking about anything immoral, I’m talking about something that’s nonsensical (or just plan stupid), but because your client or your boss is telling you to do it, your hands are tied.

Your first reaction is to stand up for yourself.

You don’t deserve to be treated this way!

They just don’t see it from your perspective!

This just isn’t fair!

In short, get over yourself honey and just do what’s being asked of you. There’s a reason it’s called “work” and they pay you.

A woman with true class will humbly swallow her pride and take the high road. If the person you’re interacting with is behaving rudely, you certainly don’t need to join them. Remember that you are a direct representation of your employer. How you respond will speak volumes of your character and will create an impression on who you’re interacting with.

It’s not easy. Often times it just plain sucks. Step away from your desk and take a lap around your office building and breathe deeply. Collect yourself. Then, come back and respond with grace.

Good news is that it does get easier. Chin up. Someday you’ll be the boss.
